PSI LAMBDA LAMBDA HISTORY

The Psi Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was chartered on January 20, 2005, in New York City. The Chartering Ceremony was held on March 19, 2005, at the historic St. James Presbyterian Church in Harlem, NY. Thirty-eight distinguished Omega Men laid the foundation for the Chapter, with nineteen of them holding Life Membership.

From the beginning, Psi Lambda Lambda has been committed to service and uplift. Our first official event was a theater party, which set the tone for a tradition of community engagement. Soon after, we partnered with the Eagle Academy Mentoring Program, volunteered at the Supplementary Education Expo, and launched fundraisers to grow our Scholarship Fund. Following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, we organized a shoe drive for the Etu Evans Solesville Foundation, Inc., along with a financial donation to support transportation of collected supplies to survivors.

Building Programs That Last

Over the years, Psi Lambda Lambda has expanded its impact with signature initiatives:

  • Purple Book Gold Book Project – creating bookshelf spaces in New York hospitals, filled with educational and entertaining books for children and their families.

  • Purple Boot Initiative (2007) – providing mentorship to young men ages 9–11 at Harlem Day Charter School.

  • Project Outreach: Uplifting & Reigniting Scholarship – Psi Lambda Lambda Foundation (POURS-PLL) (2008) – our nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to making education the first choice for social and economic empowerment.

  • Purple and Gold Leadership Academy for Young Men (2008) – offering mentorship, academic support, and leadership development for young men ages 14–18.

A Presence in the Community

Psi Lambda Lambda continues to be an active force in New York City. We have a long-standing presence at the New York Urban League’s Annual Football Classic, contributing thousands of dollars annually through ticket sales and group participation.
